Time in Larsen Lab: 2025
Basic Project Description: Brooke spent the summer of 2025 doing an internship with the folks at SRNL, where she investigated Hurricane Helene's impact on vegetation from remote sensing data. She wanted to do satellite/remote-sensing types of things, and I am more interested in microphysics -- so we tried to figure out something she could attack that both of us would find meaningful. Ultimately, she spent a semester working to develop a simple algorithm to try to determine storm type based only on microphysical rainfall data. With only a single semester to work on this, we didn't get it across the finish line -- but Brooke made enough progress that I believe there may be something of substance there.
